Making India(n) Proud Offshores
I was absolutely stunned by 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom' routine on 'So you think you can dance' show last week. Bedazed...coz not only it was beautifully choreographed [hats-off Nakul] and presented by 10 best american dancers from different backgrounds but because after the 'Om Shanti Om' dance number by Joshua and Katee [this vid link is must see] i wanted more of Bollywood on this show and it did happen...
Let me not veer from what i intended to write here...
When away from your homeland, no matter where you are, any small favourable news or incident mentionining India or Indians makes you really proud !!! Be it the entertainment [TV and movies] industry or business...the very mention of India(n) in news/media/print raises our ears and eyebrows and when you inhale fresh air once again...it makes your chest expand and the pride sets in :)
The Indian Diaspora has never been bounded by any place or field...be it Lakshmi Mittal as the billionaire industrialist in London or the Noble laureate Amartya Sen, visionary venture capitalist Vinod Khosla in US. Time and again people have left shores of India to test the troubled waters elsewhere and in the process have brought 'India closer to the World' making billions of fellow-indians proud on and off the shores.
Can you be the Dr Deepak Chopra or Mira Nair or Bobby Jindal or Sam Pitroda of t'row who have given a reason to smile and touched the hearts of billions in and outside our country? Well yes !! We need to to change the perspective how we look at 'ourselves' at the micro level and it will gradually and automatically impact the bigger picture of making India(n) proud at the macro level.
At a micro level, look at your self as the Brand Ambassador of India...here is the RCA...When i was in Bangalore, i thought that i was the Brand Ambassador of Gujarat (where i hail from) and my thoughts and action in a new State around people from other origin will typecast all Gujaratis. Hence give away your best. Same is the case now. I am in US and therefore i am the Brand Ambassador of India where my thoughts and actions will reflect the nature of people and culture of my country of origin. It is in my hands to embellish or tarnish the image of my homeland.
Take baby steps first by contributing to the smaller circle and getting recognition within...like what Nakul did bringing the Indian Bollywood dance routines on an American dance show. This will pave roads for future feats...
